Weaving Taster Day Workshop – 27.07.2025

WEAVING TASTER DAY
Sunday 27th July 2025, 10am-5pm

Discover the joy of weaving in this inspiring one-day taster workshop, ideal for complete beginners or anyone curious about learning a new yarn craft. Under the expert guidance of Julie Cowan, experienced weaver and tutor at Truro Wool, you’ll spend the day creating your very own handwoven scarf on one of our Ashford Rigid Heddle Looms.

After a warm welcome and introduction, you’ll dive into the basics of using a Rigid Heddle Loom. Julie will walk you through key weaving terminology and techniques in a relaxed and supportive setting. You’ll get hands-on straight away, as each loom will be pre-warped and ready to go with your chosen yarn, so you can spend the day focused on the creative process of weaving.

You’ll be weaving with one of six stunning shades from the Stylecraft Colour Burst collection, a yarn specially selected for its soft feel and clever colour-shifting effect. These yarns naturally form eye-catching check-like patterns as you weave, resulting in a scarf that looks and feels beautiful.

Please let us know your chosen colour in the Customer Order Notes section at checkout. Your loom will be pre-warped in your selected yarn, so you can start weaving straight away on the day.

By the end of the session you should achieve a scarf that will be approximately 1.5 meters long by 23cm wide, with faster weavers able to achieve up to 1.8 meters in length.

Techniques covered:

• Understanding a Rigid Heddle Loom
• Understanding all the common weaving terms from ‘epi’ to ‘shed’ and lots more
• Weaving plain weave using a stick shuttle
• How to create and maintain a neat selvedge edges
• How to remove your weaving from the loom
• Making simple knotted tassels
• The importance of ‘wet’ finishing

• This workshop is limited to a maximum of 6 participants.

Cancellation Policy:

• If your circumstances change and you are unable to attend a workshop you have booked, please let us know as soon as possible. A 90% refund will be given if the cancellation is made more than 28 days in advance of the start of your workshop (10% is required to cover administrative costs incurred). Unfortunately, no refund can be given on cancellations made within 28 days of the start of the workshop, however, we would be willing to swap your booking over to another name, should you have a friend or family member that would wish to attend in your place.
• This workshop requires a minimum of 4 participants to run.
• Very rarely circumstances beyond our control may mean that workshops must be cancelled. Should this happen, the cost of your workshop will be fully refunded.
