***Please note: This workshop is exclusively available to attendees of the 2025 Truro Wool Knitting & Crochet Retreat ***
Join Lucy Thomas, Silversmith and founder of The Canny Goose, for a workshop designed exclusively for our 2025 Retreat participants. In this fun 3-hour workshop, you will be given an introduction to making a unique sterling silver and fine silver shawl pin, incorporating either a piece of Cornish Serpentine or Cornish Sea Glass. Every step of the making process will be demonstrated, and once the basics are covered, you’ll set out on the fun part – the making!
During the three hours, you will learn to design your own shawl pin from scratch by first choosing your piece of Cornish sea-glass or Serpentine stone. You’ll then cut sterling silver to make both the pin and back plate for the bezel before closely wrapping your sea-glass/Serpentine with fine silver to make your bezel cup, soldering the back plate, bezel and pin all together. You’ll file, solder, form metal, buff and polish and set sea-glass/Serpentine with Lucy on hand to help to guide and encourage you from start to finish.
This workshop is perfect for total beginners—you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve in just three hours! By the end, you’ll have a stunning, handmade shawl pin to adorn your hand knitted and crocheted creations.
All materials are included in the price – sterling silver, fine silver and sea-glass/serpentine, as well as a good dose of fun and all the tools required to make a high quality piece of decorative and wearable silver, ready for you to take home with you at the end of the workshop.
